Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth are one of the first things we notice about a person, so it's worth looking after your smile. In many respects, it's true to say that "your mouth is a window to your health". It's therefore vitally important to ensure that your mouth and teeth stay healthy and attractive. There's many options available to help you do so.

Dentistry is Much More Than Just Fixing Teeth

Some would say there's no perfect substitute for natural teeth. However, dental technology and practices have come a very long way. With current technologies and advanced treatments, perfection in teeth and smile are more possible than you might think.

Dentistry is no longer just a case of putting in fillings and taking out teeth. Nowadays, many people are looking for what's become known as "cosmetic dentistry". They want to improve the appearance of their teeth and their smile. Cosmetic dentistry is now accessible to everyone, and can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth. Common cosmetic treatments include veneers, crowns, bridges and tooth-coloured fillings.

So, why not have the smile you've always dreamed of?

Would you like to improve the appearance of your teeth? Most people aren't born with perfect teeth. Teeth age and lose their sparkle. Whether it's the effects of drinking tea, coffee, or red wine, to name but a few, cosmetic dentistry can create the beautiful, confident smile you've always dreamed of.

Whether "perfect teeth" means a dazzling Hollywood smile or "pearly whites", or something more conservative-looking, our experienced dentists can offer you a range of dental treatments that can suit you perfectly.

When you can smile boldly because your teeth have that "WOW! factor", it will have a positive far-reaching impact on your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Whether it's stain removal, teeth whitening, white filllings, enamel re-shaping, or perhaps porcelain veneers and bonding, or implants or othodontic braces, we can customize our dental treatments to suit your unique requirements. After the work is done, you'll be pleased if not surprised by the astounding results of our smile make-overs!

 Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has become one of the most popular ways to enhance your smile. We restore your teeth to their natural whiteness. All of our teeth whitening treatments are safe and gentle, and proven to lighten the shade of your teeth.

Let's face it, tooth discolouration can spoil an otherwise attractive smile. Discolouration may be the result of genetics, medication, poor oral hygiene, aging, smoking, certain foods and beverages, or any combination of the above.

A whiter, healthier-looking, more beautiful smile will make you feel better about yourself, and that's always a good thing. Depending upon the severity of your discolouration, most patients notice the difference immediately — and sometimes it can literally take years off your appearance!

At Smiles Are Us, we offer you two types of whitening treatments. The first is Sapphire Professional Whitening. It is an in-clinic "chairside" whitening/bleaching system that can restore your smile and teeth to their natural beauty in just one appointment.

We've chosen Sapphire as our preferred whitening treatment amongst many that are available to dental clinics, worldwide. Why? Because it has been clinically proven to whiten teeth up to 12 shades within an hour, and over 7 shades in as little as 30 minutes. It's safe and efffective bleaching formulated to prevent sensitivity. It will not harm your teeth or gums.

We also offer our patients the NiteWhite and DayWhite Whitening system for those who want something they can easily adminster at home.

You can trust that our teeth whitening treatments have been extensively evaluated to provide a safe and proven way to lighten the shade of your teeth. Get ready to have teeth that will draw people's attention for all the right reasons!

 White Fillings

Gone are the days of a mouth filled with metallic compounds for teeth fillings, and grey-tinged teeth.

Nowhere in dentistry has the rate of advances in technology been more apparent than in the science of dental composites — Single colour materials suffered from excessive wear thirty years ago whereas today's highly advanced materials can exactly match the appearance and colour of your teeth, and are incredibly tough and long lasting.

You do not have to accept having amalgams comprised of silver and mercury placed in your teeth anymore. With the advent of white fillings and dental composites, our dentists can offer you a palette of subtle tooth shades to recreate the natural colour variations of your tooth. It will blend in perfectly with your adjacent teeth and you'll be able to smile and laugh with confidence.

Many people now have dental composites used for their fillings and when one of your unsightly, dark, amalgam fillings of the past reaches the end of its life, it is often possible to replace it with a tooth coloured dental composite alternative. This allows teeth to be safely and aesthetically restored achieving a more attractive smile.

At Smiles Are Us, our highly skilled dental professionals would be delighted to discuss white fillings with you as part of your personally tailored treatment plan.

 Enamel Reshaping

Enamel reshaping is a process of contouring or reshaping natural teeth to improve their overall appearance. When teeth are slightly crowded or uneven, or when eyeteeth appear too long, or when a tooth has been chipped or worn down due to an accident, or teeth grinding, enamel reshaping may be used to correct the flaw. Enamel reshaping, which is often combined with bonding, is usually quick and painless. No anesthesia is necessary when reshaping enamel, and the results can be seen immediately.

In many respects, enamel reshaping, when combined with teeth whitening and conservative bonding, can be the fastest, least invasive and least expensive way to have a smile make-over. However, this is a more conservative process and not everyone is a candidate for this procedure. Many may require a more comprehensive treatment such as veneers, braces, implants, crowns and bridge work, etc.

Whatever your dental needs may be, we invite you to book a consultation with one of our dentists. They'll be sure to present you with all the treatment options so that you may determine the best dental solution for you.

 Porcelain Veneers

When it comes to the lifestyle of today's famous celebrities, a dental "sign of our times" is surely the dazzling smiles of famous Hollywood actors and tv personalities. Dental veneers are some of the magic!

But veneers aren't just for the rich and famous – they're for everyone. Here at Smiles Are Us, we make them affordable, too. We don't sell you on the hype — We separate the dental facts from the Hollywood fiction. We create dental veneers that really work for you.

Veneers can be made from porcelain and can be used to change the shade, shape, position or size of teeth. This can improve the appearance of a tooth that is stained, discoloured or chipped. Veneers can also be used to close or reduce gaps between teeth, or bring them in line with the rest of your teeth, in situations where braces may not be suitable.

They're constructed in a dental laboratory from precision models of your teeth made from impressions that your dentist takes as part of your treatment. It is very common to require some preparation of the underlying tooth to create space to place the veneer. In certain cases such as where a tooth is being brought forward into the line of the arch or where a small tooth is being made bigger, no preparation may be required.

Dental veneers utilise a tooth coloured porcelain or composite material to cover over the visible front surface of the tooth. Veneers rely on special dental adhesive technology for their strength. Good colour matching and excellent construction helps veneers achieve a superior, life-like result that will last for many years.

Give us a call today! Our Smiles Are Us dentists can help you make an informed choice as to having dental veneers as part of your personal treatment plan. You'll smile with confidence showing off your lovely new teeth!

 Cosmetic Bonding

Bonding is another exciting dental option we offer at Smiles Are Us. Via this technique special tooth-coloured composite material is permanently bonded to your tooth using dental adhesives.

Cosmetic bonding can take the place of other slightly more invasive treatments which require preparation of your tooth such as traditional veneers. This makes it a popular choice for many dental patients.

Cosmetic bonding can be used for a wide range of situations such as when a tooth is worn at its biting edge or where it meets your gum, when you have gaps between your teeth or where a tooth is an unusual shape.

One of the best things about this treatment is that it is very gentle on your teeth. No tooth substance is removed in the bonding process. That means that if your cosmetic bonding is ever later removed, your tooth is just the same as before the treatment.

Our Smiles Are Us dentists would be delighted to discuss your personal requirements and the suitability of cosmetic bonding as part of your custom treatment plan.

 Othodontic Treatment

Here, at Smiles Are Us, our dentists are fully-trained and experienced in othodontics.

Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that largely focuses on treatments such as tooth straightening using orthodontic braces, as well as fixing other related problems or abnormalities in the teeth and jaws. The aim is to produce a healthy, functioning bite, and improving your personal appearance. An incorrect bite can lead to long-term dental problems and even jaw and head pain. Straightening mis-aligned teeth also makes them easier to clean. Most patients find that orthodontic treatment contributes to both their mental and physical well-being.

These are some of the most common reasons for orthodontic treatment:

Protruding upper front teeth — One of the most common dental problems.

Crowding — A narrow jaw may mean there is not enough room for your teeth, resulting in crowding. Conversely, some patients have significant gaps between their teeth.

Asymmetry — Particularly when the centre lines of the upper and lower front teeth do not match, perhaps because the teeth have drifted or the position of the jaw has shifted.

Deep bite — When your upper teeth cover the lower teeth too much.

Cross bite — When your upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth.

Open bite — When your front teeth remain apart when your back teeth meet; the tongue is often still visible between the upper and lower front teeth.

Impacted teeth — In some patients, secondary teeth come through in the wrong position or do not erupt at all. Orthodontic treatment can help bring these teeth into the correct position.

Othodontic treatment is always a customised treatment plan. In order to decide which treatment is required for you, we would need to carry out a thorough assessment of your teeth which is likely to include x-rays, impressions (moulds of the teeth) and photographs. Treatment can take anything from a few months to one or two years, depending on the severity of the problem, and your dentist will need to adjust the braces every four to six weeks. Once the treatment is complete it will be necessary to wear an appliance known as a retainer, in order to hold the newly straightened teeth in place while the gum and bone around them settles. Therefore, it is important that you are happy from the outset with what is recommended, and subsequently agreed to. Braces are almost always needed, and those which are used most often are:

Fixed Braces — This is the most common type of braces. Brackets are glued onto the teeth and linked by wires. The wires exert gentle pressure to move the teeth into a new position.

Removable Appliances — This is sometimes used for correcting a simple problem, such as moving a single tooth or expanding the dental arch. It has a plastic plate with wires and usually springs attached. Removable appliances need to be worn all the time except for cleaning or for sports.

Functional Appliances — These are used to harness the growth of the jaws and improve the way the upper and lower teeth meet. They are mostly removable but should be worn as near to full-time as possible. These are usually worn during childhood and early adolescence.

Retainers — At the end of treatment, all patients should wear retainers to hold their teeth in the new position. These can be removable or fixed and are an important part of treatment. By not wearing a retainer it is possible for a relapse to occur with the teeth moving out of position.

We offer other orthodontic options for select special cases where it may work well — Ask us about our "Non-Brackets Orthodontics".
